good day

today was a good one. went to school- pretty standard. went with roman to salvo’s on jefferson and lima and got some great finds and great gifts for christmas—some neat little nick nacks (how’s that for alliteration). then i went and picked up my car and went home to see how pop was doing after his surgery and he told me that he was in a lot of pain but not to think that he is a pussy because of it. then i went to sara’s and had a cup of coffee and a salad and drew some stuff in my handy pocket sketchbook. on a little spurt of impulse i decided not to go home but to go see my dear lily at casa’s. she said that she looked gross but really she looked gorgeous. it felt good to see her. then i drove home and tended to my raging stomach ache. and here I am now: debating between drawing some commission pieces i have to do, or my personal project, or studying for my english final. maybe i’ll do all three!

…or maybe just listen to tom petty

snow

Walking through a field with my little brother Seth

I pointed to a place where kids had made angels in the snow.
For some reason, I told him that a troop of angels
had been shot and dissolved when they hit the ground.

He asked who had shot them and I said a farmer.

Then we were on the roof of the lake.
The ice looked like a photograph of water.

Why he asked. Why did he shoot them.

I didn’t know where I was going with this.

They were on his property, I said.

When it’s snowing, the outdoors seem like a room.

Today I traded hellos with my neighbor.
Our voices hung close in the new acoustics.
A room with the walls blasted to shreds and falling.

We returned to our shoveling, working side by side in silence.

But why were they on his property, he asked.

one time i wrote this poem on lily’s back. lily is my girlfriend and someday her and i will have the coziest house anyone’s ever known.

animals

Have you forgotten what we were like then
when we were still first rate
and the day came fat with an apple in its mouth

it's no use worrying about Time
but we did have a few tricks up our sleeves
and turned some sharp corners

the whole pasture looked like our meal
we didn't need speedometers
we could manage cocktails out of ice and water

I wouldn't want to be faster
or greener than now if you were with me O you
were the best of all my days

we taught the fruit how to eat itself

Take a drive in the wrong hand lane
Got bad breath talking bout fresh rain
We taught the mirror how to admire itself
Are you gonna get sick worrying bout your health
